This weekend, those who have not played Evolve on either PC or Xbox One will be able to access the game's content for free.

Evolve free to play on Xbox One and PC this weekend

Evolve's Hunting Season One and the playable Behemoth Monster will go free at 12:01 am PT on September 4, and remain open to all for 24 hours. At 12:01 am PT on September 5, the freebie will switch to the characters and content included with Hunting Season 2, which will also stay free for everyone for 24 hours. Anyone who purchases the game once the weekend is over will retain the progress they earned during the free play period, except for DLC unlocks, which will revert to zero.

Evolve was well received at launch, but has been criticised for its aggressive DLC release strategy.

The PlayStation 4 is getting exclusive Mad Max content

Mad Max – a game which has the dubious honor of launching at exactly the same time as a new title in the Metal Gear Solid franchise – hits store shelves very soon, so Sony has released a brand new trailer showing off the exclusive content its super machine will be receiving.

If you play Mad Max on PS4, you’ll get 12 extra hood ornaments, which remain exclusive until at least November 30. This might not be a gamechanger, but most of them are neat little references to Mad Max: The Road Warrior. You’ve got the mask of Lord Humongous (aka The Ayatollah of Rock and Rollah), the Feral Kid’s boomerang, and the aviator’s hat, among others.

Mad Max is due on September 1 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

The Taken King will feature a new raid called King’s Fall

Destiny’s upcoming The Taken King expansion will not feature the King’s Fall raid on day one of its September 15 launch.

The Taken King will feature a new raid called King’s Fall

“We definitely have a plan for when it’s going to be available”, Director Luke Smith said. “I’m not going to announce the plan for it on the YouTube gaming stage…But I promise for people who are excited about the raid will know when it’s time to take time off work. We’ll give em’ a heads up”.

The Taken King will bring with it a massive overhaul of Destiny. The weekly heroic strike is disappearing, Peter Dinklage is being replaced by Nolan North, and characters will be able to level up to level 40.

DICE want to make it clear that Battlefront will not feel like a Battlefield game with Star Wars skin

DICE is proving it doesn't need the military mayhem of Battlefield to make an addictive shooter. In fact, it turns out new Star Wars FPS doesn't any systems with DICE's main franchise.

DICE’s general manager Patrick Bach explains in the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine “I don’t think we have a single system in the game that is the same as in Battlefield”. “They are as far apart as any shooter would be to any other shooter. I think people will be surprised that it’s even a DICE game in some cases, but I think that the quality of the game and the quality of the audio, the visuals, the emotion it evokes will hopefully feel very DICE.”

Star Wars Battlefront is due November 17 in the USA, November 19 in Australia, and November 20 in Europe, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. It was recently named game of the show at gamescom.

Fallout has 275 separate XP levels

Some interesting new details has been revealed related to the working of Fallout 4 in the latest issue of OPM. The publication confirmed that Fallout 4 will have 275 separate XP levels, and one for each individual perk.

Fallout has 275 separate XP levels

In simple term this means, in Fallout 4, each individual perk will carry its own XP levels and it will be tied into player's overall XP rank. In other words this also means that Fallout 4 will offer potentially more play time that Fallout 3 because players will likely get incentives for leveling up certain perks which will results in playing the game multiple times.

Fallout 4 is due for release on November 10 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Republique Coming 2016 on PlayStation 4

You help to guide her around from the perspective of surveillance cameras, interacting with the environment in various ways to keep her out of danger. Twitch Plays Dark Souls has done something many believed was entirely impossible

Dark Souls’ first boss, the Asylum Demon, has been defeated. Twitch Plays Dark Souls did it at last.

Sure, for regular players he’s just a tutorial obstacle. But for Twitch, stringing together enough hits to bring him down is an achievement for the ages. Those 2000 souls might be the most they can ever pull together.

Flabbergasted naysayers can take comfort, though; Polygon reports the stream host has introduced an intermittent pause feature to help things along. The game’s action is frozen for several seconds immediately after every action, during which time commands are tallied, with the most popular one executing when the game unfreezes.

Cheating? Maybe, but the pausing feature doesn’t seem to be in effect all the time, and Kotaku reckons it’s just a frame rate issue. If so, the massive should hope things don’t improve.

Watch Twitch Plays Dark Souls’ significantly accelerated progress below.

Volume is Metal Gear Solid meets Pac-Man meets a fever dream of future dystopia

Volume is an isometric stealth game in which players explore VR environments, avoiding detection by enemies and collecting gems in order to unlock the exit.

Volume’s premise is both novel and unique: Using a forgotten (and decidedly humorous) AI, and a tool called the Volume, Robert Locksley reconstructs virtual rooms and areas to steal from. These rooms are taken straight from the archives of a power-hungry businessman-turned-ruler: Guy Gisborne (voiced by Andy Serkis!), and his many corrupt associates. Not content to merely replicate the act of stealing from these people, Locksley essentially live-streams his exploits across the internet, giving the downtrodden an opportunity to “take back what’s theirs” by following his literal walkthroughs. I enjoyed this odd quirky take on a futuristic live-streaming world, though the frequent references to “viewers”, “the internets”, and even a callout to Minecraft felt a little too on-the-nose.

That’s a very minimalistic description of the 100 levels of tense, strategic infiltration ahead of you. How every on-them of me; if only my brief and functional outline conveyed as much and worked as well as Volume’s spare, stylised aesthetic.

Like many stealth games, Volume carefully balances thinking and action. Each level is a puzzle, but once you’ve figured out the solution you still have to execute; those with confidence in their reflexes will have a better time of it. The majority of levels I encountered requires split-second timing, forward-thinking or both.

And all of this is delivered in a calm, cheerful, very British tone, where the gravity of the themes is neither over- nor underplayed. You’re charmed, of course, but this isn’t surface charisma; Volume delivers a thoughtful and biting narrative.

We’ve got the best of both worlds here. Volume is an open-ended experience, offering community content and competition far beyond the scope of its 20 levels – but it’s also a beautiful example of the old school dream of self-containment, not to mention the very rare achievement of a narrative that neither overwhelms nor takes a backseat to compelling gameplay. Top stuff.

Volume is now available on Mac, PC and PS4, with a cross-buy enabled Vita release due in a few weeks.

The Witcher 3 developer wanted to set an example by releasing all of the game’s DLC for free

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has received 16 pieces of DLCs since its launch in May. All of which were promised, and they were all delivered to players on a weekly basis for no additional charge.

New Game+ was just added to Wild Hunt as the last of developer CD Projekt Red’s free post-release downloadable content. It’s a cool final addition, since many people (like me) have finished the game and might want to try it again and make different decisions. And maybe see if they can keep from screwing it up with Triss and Yen this time.

Developer CD Projekt RED is very happy with players’ response and hopes its DLC policy changes something in the industry. “I would really like to see such initiatives become an industry standard rather than an exception to the general rule,” says co-founder Marcin Iwiński.

“I hope that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has set a good example.”

While some may argue that most of the DLC drops were cosmetic and not meaty game content, releasing them for free in this day and age remains largely unprecedented. Then there’s the game’s expansion pass, which has a price less than that of most AAA games with the promise of large amounts of content.
