Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain – how to make GMP quicklyMaking GMP in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain isn’t super hard, as long as you’re willing to put in a bit of groundwork. With plenty of GMP on hand, you can quickly upgrade your equipment and customise your approach to the battlefield – resulting in potentially higher ratings, more discovered resources, and a generally good time. Here are our top tips for raking in the cash.
Achieve S-Rank on story missionsManaging to score an S rating on a Story Mission nets you a whopping 20% GMP bonus. That’s well worth the effort it takes to achieve, especially as getting those elusive S Rank mission end screens may not be as hard as you think it is.
The best way to improve your rating on any given missions is to focus on speed and stealth – ghosting a mission in record time will push your rating up considerably. Learn patrol routes and make a speed run dash for the goal without being detected.
Otherwise, you can earn higher scores by not using Reflex Mode, landing headshots (with a non-lethal weapon, of course; we’re ghosting) and interrogating baddies.
Do Side OpsThis should be obvious, but doing non-essential missions will earn you more rewards for use in prepping yourself for the main story missions. There are 150 Side Ops missions and all of them offer a GMP reward.
The payout varies depending on difficulty and mission details, but whether you’re extracting prisoners or clearing mines, you can expect later Side Ops to bring in a tasty 300,000 GMP.
You’re also missing out on a huge chunk of interesting content if you skip Side Ops, so make the effort.
Collect Rough DiamondsOne of the easiest ways to make money, if not the most reliable, are Rough Diamonds. Pick up any you see – the value of these low-effort collectibles ranges up to 100,000 GMP.
In addition to Rough Diamonds found scattered throughout missions and the general field, you can secure a good supply by interrogating enemy soldiers. It’s really worthwhile mining these guys for information, isn’t it? Ah ha ha.
No seriously: collect the damn rocks. It’s one of the most efficient ways to get yourself cashed up as you pursue other goals.
Send your staff out on Combat DeploymentsWhy should Snake do all the work? You’ve spent all this time assembling a crack team, so send them out into the field to pay back the cash you spent Fultoning their asses back to Mother Base. You can send two soldiers on missions to begin with, and can unlock the ability to deploy more by constructing Forward Operating Bases.
Note that there is an element of risk with this one – your soldiers can be killed on missions. The best way to avoid this is to send your best troops on missions with high success rate projections.
Although it takes some work to get your team together, this method is one of the most low-effort and efficient methods of raking in GMP we’ve found so far. Just get on with your life while others make money for you. What’s not to love?
